Jacana Lodge follows in the footsteps of other David Denies properties in offering discerning guests some of the best sport available combined with the highest levels of service, both at the lodge and in the field. We are confident that we have created a truly unique duck shooting experience.
The David Denies Duck Program draws on the hundreds of years of combined experience our team brings to the table in guiding, outfitting, and preparing wing shooting programs for discriminating shooting guests. Duck shooting here features comfortable, well-camouflaged dry blinds, quality species-specific decoys, and all the boats, vehicles and trucks to get you to the ducks each day. Guides position you where you need to be to get the kind of duck hunting you’ve only dreamed of until now.
We shoot twice a day, morning and evening, and there is plenty of time to unwind and relax at midday. Roads are good, and journeys are short and - better yet - you can reach our duck hunting program by road from Buenos Aires. Arrive on a morning flight from the U.S. or Europe, and you’ll be hunting ducks after lunch.
Shotguns/Chokes
Selecting which gun to take all comes down to personal preference. Autoloaders are popular, as are over/under or side-by-side guns. With Rosy-Billed Pochards, Pintails, and other “big” ducks being the prevalent species in Argentina, 12 gauge is the gun of choice. Chokes are probably more open than you’d imagine - decoy ducks are generally at close range, and improved cylinder is about right. If you prefer not to bring a gun, we have Benelli autoloaders that you are welcome to use during your stay.
Ducks
There are 12 common species in this area of Argentina, which is an area called the central lowlands, or wet pampas. A fine book on all of the bird species, including the waterfowl, is Tito Narosky’s Birds of Argentina and Uruguay, which is available in many bookstores and online retailers. In order of abundance you should see these ducks as they are listed below. Almost all whistle, except for the Pochard which purrs, or burrs, like the Canvasback.
Yellow Billed Pintail/Rosey-Billed Pochard/White-Faced Whistling Duck/Fulvous Whistling/ Duck Speckled Teal/Silver Teal/Red Shoveller/Southern Wigeon/Cinnamon Teal/White Cheeked Pintail/Blackheaded Duck/Ring Teal.
