“Ohorongo” is an unspoiled Eden which lies hidden away in the highlands of Namibia, 300km north of Windhoek far from the ever-encroaching reach of man. Across 100,000 acres, it reflects the harsh beauty of the land, divided by bold strokes into the vast open veld, mountains, the thorny savannah and rare bodies of water. Tenacious, and at the times breathtakingly delicate, its diverse and abundant plant life takes root in even the most adverse conditions.
It is a sanctuary to the great African creatures-game animals, birds and insects whose movements it does not confine to the boundaries of the territory. “Ohorongo” can be reached in 1hour 15 minutes by chartered aircraft, which lands on a private runway at the camp’s doorstep.
The hunting lodge was built from local materials to blend in with the colours of its surroundings. While a swimming pool and sauna, Italian marble bathrooms and cool polished tile floors afford elegance and comfort, these do not detract from the sense of wilderness at the owner’s doorstep. The lodge accommodates a party of up to ten guests who are assured of the staff’s exclusive attention, guaranteeing an intimate camp life.
“Ohorongo” proudly presents its latest achievement: Katiti camp, a one-hour drive from the lodge. It is a luxury, tented safari camp with bathrooms en suite, and there is nothing but peace and silence stretching out across the open veld, interrupted only by the cries of wildlife.
Animal wildlife at “Ohorongo” includes: eland, oryx, sable, roan, both blue and black wildebeest, Burchell and Hartmann zebra, giraffes, baboons, ostrich, red hartebeest, warthogs, springbok, steenbok, klipspringer, duiker, Damaraland dik-dik, cheetah, lions, leopards, caracal or lynx, jackals, brown hyenas, hyrax, at times eleven elephants and a great variety of bird species. And of course, its namesake, the Kudu, which in the language of the Herero tribe is called “Ohorongo”.
“Ohorongo” is one of a handful of reserves that have successfully preserved a number of endangered species, such as the black-faced impala, roan and sable. “Ohorongo” is also a good point of departure for excursions to the cliffs of the Waterberg and to Etosha National Park, the Okavango river or to the Namib, the oldest desert on earth.
At “Ohorongo”, you will experience an unforgettable hunting safari and forever be haunted by the beauty of Africa at its best. In the words of a San Bushman legend: “Now you come, now you go. When you come again, you will never go again”.
